More on the Rooster

Back in March last year, before normal life was interupted, I started a new project. This may refresh your memory if you don't want to follow the links to my earlier posts:

I continued for a few more weeks but have done nothing on it since May 2009. I found other more urgent work to do when I had time for sewing.

However, now it is the urgent project as we have had word from France that the paintings for the doors are finished and the doors won't take very long to make. Aren't they fabulous?

So I had better fulfill my part of the bargain and finish the quilt! Today I spent a couple of hours working on the tail feathers of the rooster. You can see a before and after comparison above.

Hi Janice,
I found your blog when I was searching for some info on the swiftquilter. You purchased one sometime in 2007 so by now you should be an expert on it! I can only do simple straight machine quilting so I was wondering if it is easy to learn to use it. I am thinking of getting one for myself. Too many UFOs in the cupboard!! Do you mind if I 'call' on you if I need some advice? Thanks...By the way, the roosters are beautiful!!

Thanks Erin - yes, i will finish it, i finish for other people...

Hi Janovi - no, I haven't managed enough time on it yet to be an expert yet, but I'm gaining experience. Its easy to learn but have a few quilts that don't need custom quilting to start on.

Great that you are getting back to the rooster. I find there's nothing like a deadline to increase motivation :-)

Beautiful work and detail. I'm amazed how closely you could get the appliqued fabrics to look like the picture.
